The Basilica is dedicated to the Virgin of Mercè, saint patron of the city of Barcelona. The current church stands on a previous one from medieval times. Inside, it preserves a very striking baroque-style decoration and an image of the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus, carved in the 14th century, venerated by the people of Barcelona. Also remarkable is the organ, fully restored in 2018.
